The partner

Workrise is a workforce management platform designed for industries that rely on skilled labor. Originally founded in 2014 as RigUp, the company rebranded to Workrise in 2021 as it expanded its reach beyond the oil and gas sector to include industries like wind, solar, construction, and defense.

At its core, Workrise connects skilled workers with job opportunities using advanced technology. Laborers can find work through the platform, while energy companies can streamline their entire hiring process, from recruitment and onboarding to worker management and payments. Based in Austin, Texas, Workrise has earned recognition as one of the best places to work for two consecutive years.

The Challenge

Recognized by Forbes as one of the "Next Billion Dollar Startups" in 2019, Workrise rapidly grew into one of the energy sector’s fastest-growing tech companies. The organization faced the challenge of sourcing top-tier talent, particularly engineers, as they scaled, according to James Gorman, Senior Director of Data & Analytics.

"We wanted to diversify our hiring pipeline and explore different avenues for bringing in engineers," Gorman explained.

The Howdy Solution: Streamlined Talent Acquisition

Workrise partnered with multiple hiring agencies, but Howdy quickly distinguished itself with its highly qualified candidates and a fast, efficient recruitment process.

"Howdy provided the fastest pipeline we found," said Gorman. "When it comes to getting strong candidates through the door, Howdy is by far the best option."

After teaming up with Howdy, Workrise was able to identify high-potential candidates quickly.

"Our interviews went well, and the rest is history," Gorman shared.

The Outcome: Stronger Team Connectivity and Retention

Over the next several years, Howdy helped Workrise grow its team by adding 17 software engineers, one artificial intelligence and machine learning (AIML) engineer, and a data analyst.

The company has particularly valued the human touch Howdy brings to the hiring and onboarding process.

"It doesn't feel like a transaction," Gorman said. "The engineers from Howdy feel like an extension of our team when they join us."

Howdy engineers are known for their excellent communication skills and their ability to foster a sense of community, Gorman added.

"We always aim to have at least one or two Howdy engineers in each team because they bring a web of interconnectivity," he explained. "This has been beneficial for our communication and coordination across teams."

Another significant advantage of working with Howdy is the exceptionally low employee turnover rate.

"Howdy has the lowest turnover rate I've seen for contract employees," Gorman said.

Nearly four years after being hired, many of the engineers from Howdy are still with Workrise. According to the developers, the supportive and dynamic work environment has contributed to their long-term success.

"Every day at Workrise is a learning experience," said Manuel Ignacio Roca, a software engineer based in Argentina who has been with the company since 2021. "Leading projects and collaborating with top-tier engineers has helped me grow not only in my technical expertise but also in my interpersonal skills."
