Data Platform Engineer (Snowflake Operations & FinOps)
Summary of the Role
We are looking for a Senior Data Platform Engineer (Snowflake Operations & FinOps) to own the health, security, performance and cost of a Snowflake platform and its ingestion and orchestration pipelines in a regulated healthcare environment. A Snowflake DBA at heart who works fluently across the modern data stack (Dagster, dbt, Airbyte, CDC, Azure), you will be measured on bending the credit consumption curve down and preventing platform incidents before they happen. This is an outcome-driven, AI-native role: you will rely daily on Claude Code, MCP servers and agentic scripts to automate runbooks, inspect queries and open infrastructure pull requests.
Desired Skills
- Full-Time availability
- Advanced English (C1) or above
- 6+ years of professional experience, including 3+ years running production Snowflake at scale with deep DBA expertise (warehouses, RBAC, clustering, Time Travel, ACCOUNT_USAGE analysis and parameter tuning)
- A proven FinOps track record: identifying spend anomalies, implementing warehouse guardrails and driving sustained cost reductions, with concrete metrics
- Hands-on experience with Dagster (assets, sensors, partitions), dbt (incremental materializations, testing) and Airbyte or equivalent ingestion tools
- Practical experience implementing Change Data Capture (CDC) from SQL Server and PostgreSQL into cloud warehouses
- Active daily use of AI tools such as Claude Code, the Anthropic API, MCP servers or agent frameworks to build operational automations
- Advanced Python and SQL, plus Git, CI/CD and cloud infrastructure concepts (Azure, Docker/Kubernetes, Terraform/IaC)
Responsibilities
- Forecast, attribute and reduce Snowflake credit consumption across environments, implementing resource monitors, query timeouts, warehouse sizing and auto-suspend guardrails, and query tags
- Hunt runaway and expensive queries daily, optimizing SQL, clustering, micro-partition pruning, caching and warehouse placement
- Manage RBAC roles, network policies, replication and account parameters
- Stand up and harden CDC pipelines from SQL Server and PostgreSQL into Snowflake, and operate Airbyte connections and Dagster orchestration (sensors, assets, partitions, retries)
- Maintain CI/CD pipelines for dbt, Dagster code locations and Snowflake schema changes with Infrastructure-as-Code discipline on Azure and Kubernetes
- Build Claude Code agents and MCP integrations that monitor usage, flag cost anomalies, propose optimizations and draft automated pull requests
- Partner with Security to enforce least-privilege access, data masking and audit logging for HIPAA and HITRUST compliance
Nice-to-Haves
- SnowPro Advanced Administrator or SnowPro Advanced Data Engineer certification
- Experience with Snowflake cost observability tools such as SELECT, Keebo or native Snowflake Budgets
- Experience with Snowflake Openflow, Snowpipe Streaming or Dynamic Tables
- Background in healthcare, revenue cycle or HIPAA-regulated data environments
Who You Are
- You are decisive and high-agency: when you find a runaway query or pipeline bug, you own it through to the production fix
- You are rigorous and analytical, treating cost control and platform reliability as measurable, continuous engineering goals
- You communicate clearly in both directions, explaining a query plan to a senior developer and quarterly cost trends to executive leadership
Some benefits:
- 🏢 Offices in some cities
- 🖥️ 100% remote work
- ⌚ Full-time schedule, flexible according to objectives
- 🏖️ PTO & holidays
- ⚕️ Medical insurance
